Halloween originates from an ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago called Samhain, meaning “Summer’s End.”
Unfortunately, neither Halloween — nor next Tuesday’s Presidential election — will be the end of an ongoing DDoS extortion campaign, unprecedented in scale and scope, about which the FBI first alerted in August.
On Wednesday, they issued another alert about the wave of extortion attempts for “the most significant cybersecurity threat we’ve ever seen in the United States.”
The FBI recommends DDoS mitigation services to block attacks before networks are affected. Many companies are turning to cloud-based solutions for increased scale and capacity, as legacy on-premise protection can now be overwhelmed. As ever, the key is to prevent instead of react.
