We have known phishing and BEC (Business Email Compromise) to be preferred methods for bad actors to attack. The Anti-Phishing Working Group released some fascinating stats in their latest trends report.
According to the 2019 Internet Crime Report from the FBI, BEC attacks netted the bad guys over $1.7 billion. That’s right, billions with a B. For very little effort, it’s a big reward.
For now, our best way to combat these attacks is a Defense in Depth strategy. Until we can create a higher barrier to entry and lower the payout, these type of scams will continue to increase.
